EN590 10 PPM Storage and Handling
How EN590 10 ppm diesel is kept on specification in storage, and what to ask a terminal before booking space.
What EN590 10 ppm is
EN590 is the European standard for automotive diesel. The 10 ppm grade allows a maximum of 10 parts per million of sulphur, so even small contamination from a higher-sulphur product can put a cargo off specification.
Protecting the sulphur limit
Use tanks, lines and pumps that are dedicated to ultra-low sulphur product or properly flushed. Avoid commingling with heating oil or marine gasoil. Sample at receipt and dispatch so any change can be traced.
Other properties to watch
Water content, cold-flow properties and flash point are part of the specification. Seasonal grades exist in Europe, so check which grade the receiving market expects.
Where it is stored
EN590 is traded heavily into northwest Europe. Customers needing storage near that market can look at our leased storage in Rotterdam, while Gulf Coast supply can be positioned through Houston or Alexandria, subject to space and compatibility.
